pauses and smiles at the winter-worn sky
where the spring debutante so breathlessly dresses
hidden beneath the silent snowdrift's sigh.

fate leaves, and alights, still bright, in your eyes
where it meets as a monochrome reflection me
the idyll of that winter that it fated never dies -
ever painfully it echos, an ever fatal melody.

feigns another fairytale for the innocent to believe
and spins a tale of irony with her unsuspecting game
- us. we were young once, too trusting, too naive -

winter was bliss at the end of that year
and the snowflakes sharp kisses sent by your soul
cliches melted as the ice brought amorous cheer
never was a winter more heartfelt - more full -

arrives laughing in the sunset of our desire

beat apart, each to a different fire.

spring enters our story, but the romance is over
ghost of a passion that even march cannot restore
spring alights in your eyes, forms the season's first clover
